The McKeeby/Holland Story
We just had about the greatest weekend you can imagine at Laverne Holland’s home (see the video below).
Laverne has been a widow for about 3 years and she needed some help with a few things around her house in the heart of Franklin, TN.
It started off with a Saturday morning full of thundershowers and a 90% prediction of rain all day — only, GOD is so good — that under His watchful eye, the clouds parted and by 8am we were underway. Nineteen workers descended upon Ms. Laverne’s home to give it some TLC.
We landscaped her front and side yards by weeding, extending flower beds, mulching, and planting flowers. A small tree in front, newly planted in memory of Ms. Laverne’s mom, was framed with garden stones and flower planters. In the back, her yard grew in size after a debris pile was taken away, and a tree and overgrown greenery and vines were trimmed back to reveal a blanket of vinca ground cover.
Her shed was cleaned out and several items were donated and taken to a nursing home and to Goodwill. Inside her home, the hallway was repaired and re-painted.
We saved a few things to do for Sunday because of weather. When we returned, we put brand new bookshelves in her bedroom and gave the shed a new coat of paint.
To see Ms. Holland’s face at the end of the day was such a great reward for our work, and we know we blessed her. However, when we think about our daughter, Clare, who is waiting for us in China, we know the best blessing is yet to come.
Many thanks went to Lowes and The Habitat Store for the donated & discounted materials; friends that donated mulch and Chick-fil-A for providing lunch for the crew.
